Westie Puppies – Training Problems

Westie puppies – I guess you have heard all of the problems by now. I have had Maggie my Westie puppy for 6 days. And I certainly don’t think she should be trained yet. She seems to be getting the hang of peeing outside when I let her out but pooping, not so much. She will at times poop outside but it seems that she doesn’t more than does.

Then I bring her in thinking I will put her back out in a bit to try again and darned if she doesn’t do it in the house just when I turn my back for a second or she disappears for a few seconds. I do clean up the messes with a cleaning for that type of thing. My whole back yard is fenced in and after the first few days of being out there she seems to be thinking that outside is a big playpen.

I’m wondering if I it would help if I fenced off a small part of the yard, just off the steps, for her potty area and not let her just run the whole back yard while she is out for her duty

When My Westie was small I had to always be out in the yard when Willy was out, because there was some sort of a big bird that would swoop low from overhead. This bird would Let out a screech that would really make your hair stand on end. I do not know what it was, because I never got a good look at it close up.
I live in Des Moines, Ia. in town, but we are fairly near a creek with a lot of trees.
I know that we think about things on the ground getting them, but usually do not think of a dive bombing bird. My adult son had been telling me about the bird and I thought he was kidding me because I love my Willy boy so much. One day the son told me it was circling and I went out, and there it was. I grabbed up my baby and took him in the house. He is 11+pounds now but It has been winter and he is difficult to see in the snow and He hasn’t been bothered for a while.
I hope the crazy dive bomber stays away.

I have an 8 months old Westie, he’s very sweet but he is certainly bad trained… He has been with my family for over 4 months and he hasn’t improved much… He will not go outside on the street and he has a tendency to pee when a door is closed in front of him and he stays outside… He sometimes will pee and poop outside in the backyard but not because he knows he’s supposed to do it there but because he just happens to be there, I’ve used kennel, I shout and I really try not to hit him but he simply doesn’t learn… Also he will get very exited when an stranger walks by or just a friend and he will pee.

I’ve also used some special products but they do not work on him instead he licks the liquid!! And he will stay out sniffing for hours but nothing will happen…. I really need help !!! Thank you.
