After giving birth, the mother Westie dog will spend the 1st several days with her brand new westie puppies. It’s very important to check on the mum and the new puppies to make sure that they are warm enough and are also being well fed.
If the westie mum leaves her puppies, it’ll be crucial to check the temperature very closely. Also she will be very protective of her puppies and may display indications of stress when folks come round the puppies.
In the west highland terrier puppies’ first month the owner will not need to do much for them. They’re going to be cared for, solely by the mother during this period. The owner’s role should be one of monitoring the pups’ progress and expansion rate.
When they are a month old the pups should all be in a position to walk, play, and run around. At around 4 weeks, the westie puppies should be eating solid food.Day by day the quantity of liquid being used should be reduced till ultimately the puppies are eating the canned or dry food on its own.
One activity a new west highland terrier mother will engage in often alarms westie dog owners. The westie mum may actually lick the new westie puppies hindquarters. The reason is to try and show her new pups how to urinate and defecate.
This stimulus will make them go and also the mum will probably eat the puppy’s excrement. Hope you are not eating something.The puppies will infrequently mimic this behavior and eat one another’s excrement for
a little while. Most westie puppies will stop this behavior when they are weaned.
