West Highland Terrier Food Question on Crazy about Westies Forum

This great question was posted on the Crazy About Westies forum:

—————————

I wonder if anyone can help. Meg has had two meals a day since she reached the age when that was enough. For the last 2 or 3 weeks now, she seems not to want her morning meal (10.30 ish after a walk). Yesterday she had the rumbletums pretty bad and was clingy to me all day, she didn’t eat until 6.30 pm so I thought this morning she would be ready for her food after only having one meal yesterday.

Not the case. On a couple of occasions I have tried to coax her by hand feeding her just a couple of bits, she will eat this but won’t finish the rest herself. I AM NOT GOING DOWN THAT ROAD.

Meg seems ok in herself, although she does sleep more than she used to, she doesn’t seem to ‘DO’ daytime, and comes alive around 3 in the afternoon. Is it true that when a dog gets older, they cut their food down themselves. Meg is only 6. Maybe its just a phase she is going through.

Now I can’t say ‘I know what you mean’ because I think I have one of the greediest dogs on the forum, but saying that, when Max has Rumbletums he doesn’t want to eat. Nor does Buster and Daisy had an episode when we were there last week.

If Meg is having Rumbletums and going off her food a lot it might be worth speaking to Hugh. Max rarely has the trouble since he has been on Tagamet syrup and I know it has helped Buster too.

    Hi !

Our Westie only eats very little in the morning and for the rest takes his meal in the evening.

But if you are worried about it, why don’t you go and see a vet ?
