This adoption of the Westie mascot was very apt indeed for West Highland Terriers were originally bred in Scotland and used for hunting out badgers and foxes.
It is said that the Westies breed originated from the western Scotland’s Argyll region during the 1800s. A certain Colonel Malcom thought of breeding the all-white West Highland Terriers when his red hunting terrier was mistaken for a fox during a hunt and was shot.
