Proper Grooming for the West Highland White Terrier

west highland terrier groomingIf you own a West Highland White Terrier, grooming would be one of your primary concerns in taking good care of the pet.

After all, you’d want to keep your compact little friend’s thick all-white, thick coat clean and shiny, qualities that contribute to making the Westie a lovable pet in the household.

Grooming a West Highland White Terrier isn’t that difficult. These pets need not be bathed too often as they are capable of cleaning themselves. Bathe the pet only when necessary or at least once a month.

A West Highland Terrier does not shed much hair so you can simply brush your pet with a stiff bristle brush and this should be enough to keep its coat clean.

What is “hand-stripping?” What should the real Westie cut look like? Moved and had to change groomers – New groomer’s cut looks nothing like the old groomer.

    Thank you

When our Basset hound of 17 years had to be put down, I swore I would never own another dog. Was I wrong! We have 2 Westies 8 and 9 years old. They have been the loves of our lives. So sweet and lovable and so smart and loyal. My wife thinks I’m nuts but I love these dogs so much it brings tears to my eyes to think of losing one. I cannot understand why anyone would ever give up or hurt a Westie. Maybe ours are the exceptions but these dogs will always have a place in our hearts and a loving home. I just can’t tell you how great Westies are. Wonderful dogs!!!
