Westie - How Do We Stop This?

This was posted  on our busy  Crazy About Westies Forum:

1/ When we go to bed at night toby cries, some people have suggested, a clock under his pillow in his bed although he isnt crying as long as what he was doing he is still doing it

2/ when toby does his number 2s outside if we aren't quick enough to get it lifted he eats it.  Is this normal?

My Westie Puppy Won’t Stop Crying

This was posted  on our busy Crazy About Westies Forum:

 ************************************************

HiI have a 4 month old westie, I’ve had her for 10 days and since day one she has been sleeping inside a crate in my bedroom, I leave her there at least three times a day for periods of like 2 hours and the rest of the time she spends it with our 3 year old labrador in my bedroom, which is connected to the backyard, so I leave the backyard door opened basically all day long.

Anyway, the problem is that everytime she is in the crate she starts crying and barking like crazy, I read somewere that I should not do anything to stop her crying and that she will eventually get it…well she hasnt get it, I mean, sometimes she cryes/barks herself for more than 30 minutes (or more) and then she will start again after being quiet for a while.

I have made an effort to make her crate a cozy place, she always gets a treat when I get her into the crate, she has chew toys that she loves but its not working, she only stays quiet from the beggining a few times…its not like she never stops crying when she is in there, I mean, she eventually starts playing and have fun inside the crate, but she hates the “idea” at the beggining of it, you know?Am I doing someting wrong??? please help cause my parents come back from a business trip in a few days and its going to be even harder to train her with them in the houseplease help me

Westie Digging Up My Plants -Help!!!

This was posted on our busy Crazy About Westies Forum:

************************************************

Help, I am having a problem with my little angel Dudley. He seems to enjoy digging up my flowers especially my herbs, we have tried moving them out of his reach and he will do whatever it takes to climb and reach my planters.

He has even resorted to digging up the roots of my sweet bay leaf tree. I don’t know what else to do to correct him, and at this time I also have Duncan with a sprain hind paw. I think we are all just falling apart with this little energy bunny Dudley.

Help!!!!

Westie Puppy Training Problems

This was posted  on our busy Crazy About Westies Forum:

 ************************************************

Hi

I have a little puppy called Kelsie who is 12 weeks old now (you might remember her from a few weeks ago when I wrote for advice because she was very poorly and we nearly lost her).

Well, we are looking for good tips on how to train her. Her toilet training is going okay, she 90% of the time goes to the puppy pads, but sometimes misses and when we take her outside, she does the toilet there and sometimes goes to the back door to go out which is great. So the toilet training issue isnt at all bad. What we are having problems with is when we are eating she constantly jumps up at our legs, barks at us and generally is being really greedy.

She also has a tendancy to bite peoples hands. We know she is only playing and isnt being nasty, but sometimes it does nip a bit and we try to stop her without hitting her, but we have found that a little tap on the nose and firmly saying NO! does work, but we hear alot of people saying its wrong to hit your dog, Obviously we don’t hit her hard, just a little tap on the nose so she knows its wrong. Do you think this will work?

She is brilliant on the lead, sometimes she has a go of chewing it while shes walking, but i can cope with that, but whenever she goes out a walk, she wont do the toilet until she gets back into the house, quite frustrating.

Also, in the car she has a dog carrier which she likes after the first 15 mins but sometimes she just barks and barks at me and sometimes I am scared i will loose control of the car as she is sooo loud and peircing. How can i stop her from barking at me? Once she is settled in her carrier, you wouldnt even know she is there as she is good as gold, but she does sometimes go mad in it and tries to scrape her way out of it.

I have found that giving her a treat when we 1st go in the car, it makes her quiet for a while, but i dont want to keep giving her treats as she might learn that its a good thing to bark as she will get a treat and i dont want that.  Someone told me to scoosh her with a water scoosher when she barks at me, but yesterdat i soaked her soo much she looked like a drowned rat, and she still continued to bark. Naughty Girl!!!

Any tips on toilet training, how to stop biting, barking, jumping when were eating etc would be great. We know she’s only a baby, so were not expecting miracles. Hope to hear from you soon as your advice is always great and appreciated

Sharon and Kelsie xxx
