Why Did You Get A Westie

I set this question on our Westie Forum :

I hope that this finds you all well. I would appreciate your kind help on the following question.

"Why did you get a Westie?"

To make this fair, I will give my answer. Basically why we got a Westie, was that I was outvoted by my wife and 2 sons who wanted a small dog and I had been used to larger dogs. They picked the Westie of a dog book that we have at home. One of the best decisions that has been made for this family.

Really look forward to your answers.

Jeff

hi Jeff

we decided to get a "dog" to help me with my agoraphobia and panic attacks the thinking was giving me a reason to get out and about.

david has had dogs all his life, mainly red setters, but i have been a fan of greyfriars bobby since childhood and have never had a pet before.

when i was "allowed" a dog, i immediately chose a westie and we've never looked back....i'm nagging at the moment for my second one!!!!!

snowy has been the perfect therapy pup, everytime she looks in my eyes i know i will give her everything she wants/needs regardless of how difficult it is for me.

Westie Dental Health

This  post about our Westies dental health which is all part of the grooming and health checks was posted on our busy Crazy About Westies  forum

Ok I read Angus's post but it didnt really help me, Toby is 5 & he's never had his teeth brushed, we always added biscuits to his chicken & were told this would be enough! Fools that we are we believed this as he is our first little angel.

Unfortunately now he has got plaque quite badly & the vet has told us that he needs to eat doggy plaque chews, which he absolutely will not touch  , or we need to brush his teeth, which he will not allow us to do if we wish to keep our fingers!  Any blackmail, sorry I mean training ideas anyone can pass my way!

There is always a lot of information on what your Westie should eat, such as:

  • raw bones
  • carrots
  • zucchini
  • cauliflower
  • peas
  • beans
  • bananas
  • apples
  • melon
  • oats
  • rye - and wheat-shot
  • millet
  • vegetables and fruit
  • also unpeeled rice.

but it is also just as important to know what your Westie should not eat. These are:

  •  potatoes
  •  husk-fruits
  •  corn
  •  cabbage
  •  tube-bones, especially such from poultry because of the splinter-danger, milk, sharp-edged bones
  •  chocolate
  •  grapes or raisins.

Gregory From Westie Rescue

Hi Everyone,

My Brother works with a puppy mill rescue group. He had told me about a westie they saved from a puppy mill named Gregory. He just e-mailed me and this is what he said about Gregory:

Gregory went to the Rainbow Bridge October 19, 2006. He could not recover from the harm done to his little body from the millers. I just figured that this was one of the best places to pay tribute to Gregory.

Member's Feedback

I am also very proud to be a member of the “Crazy about westies” forum, as it is a great place in which to “talk” to other westie owners,

Some live alone with just their westie for company, and the forum is a wonderful place in which to join in with all the “gossip” fun, and health related issues that a westie may get through life,

“A friend in need, is a friend indeed” and on this forum we have many sincere friends who have the West Highland Terrier at heart
